Japan Earthquake

Here is an e-mail from Daniel's mission president. Daniel was in Tomokomai as one of his first areas but he is presently nearer the west coast of Hokkaido in the city of Asahikawa.

Dear Parents,

I know many of you have heard the reports about the earthquake that hit Japan today. Hokkaido seemed to be less impacted than other areas of Japan by the actual earthquake and aftershocks. In Sapporo, is seems to be business as usual. There is a concern of flooding caused by potential tsunamis on the Pacific Coast of Hokkaido. We have missionaries in some of these coastal areas: Hakodate, Muroran, Tomakomai, Kushiro and Abashiri. We have been able to confirm the safety of almost all of our missionaries. There is little reported damage in Hokkaido from the initial earthquake. We will monitor the tsunami danger closely and continue to try to reach our missionaries in those areas. Currently, the telephone networks are not working in Hokkaido.

Thank you for your prayers and concerns,

President and Sister Daniels
